After a 5 hour drive from Amsterdam yesterday, we entered the city of Paris, and found a city full of crazy drivers! After finding the hotel I got back out in the traffic for a drive around the city, stopping at the Eiffel Tower and then driving up Champs Elysees and around the Arc de Triumph. This would have to be one of the craziest roundabouts in the world and I drove around it twice.. no marked lanes, no traffic lights, just lots of cars entering from everywhere all at once… pure chaos, but i survived and enjoyed it! Thank goodness for satellitet navigation.
Today we walked well over 10kms around Paris, and visited many sites. First stop was St Sulpice, featured in The DaVinci Code, where i saw the Rose Line, the original meridien used for navigation prior to its replacement by what is now Greenwich.
We then went past Notre Dame, a beautiful church (but didn’t see any hunchbacks) as well as Moulin Rouge and the outside of The Louvre.
Tomorrow we go inside the Louvre, and get to see artwork like the Mona Lisa. Turns out that the Louvre is free on the first Sunday of each month, which is tomorrow, so i’m expecting a big crowd.
Tonight the football quarter finals complete, France is in the last 10 minutes of the game and looks like they might win. After seeing Police drive by today with riot equipment i’m hoping they do! Since England lost, i’ve also lost the Adobe Sydney’s WorldCup sweep!
Well, almost time for bed. I’m staying inside Paris Hilton tonight, umm, well you know what i mean. 🙂
